The West African Examination Council (WAEC) has said government’s delay in releasing its outstanding debt has affected the progress of the 2024 post-examination processes.

Head of Public Affairs at WAEC, John Kapi said although the marking of the essays for the 2024 WASSCE exams and other practical components of the papers have successfully been completed, its scanners to be used to complete scanning processes for the objective exam papers are faulty.

According to a statement from WAEC, the scanners have not yet been repaired and it is causing a delay in completing the post-examination processes.

In a statement released on December 9, 2204, WAEC said it is awaiting the release of an outstanding GH₵118m debt owed by the Education Ministry to repair the scanners and complete the post examination processes and ensure smooth completion.

“The Council is awaiting the release of additional funds out of the outstanding balance of GHC118,000,000.00 from the Ministry of Education to enable the scanning process and other post-examination processes to continue smoothly,” the statement read.

The Council further appealed to suppliers and examination officials to exercise patience as payments for their services will be made as soon as the Education Ministry releases the funds.

The Council urged the public to ignore information circulating on social media purporting to be dates for the release of results.

“The results will be released as soon as the challenges being experienced with the post-examination activities are resolved,” WAEC added.
