2024 Polls: Ghanaians must reject leaders with a borrowing mindset – John Kwakye

The Director of Research at the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA), Dr John Kwakye has urged Ghanaians to reject leaders who have the idea of borrowing to develop the country.
He argues that Ghana has enough natural resources to ensure the needed development across the country. Therefore, he said, only leaders who are ready to utilise the nation’s resources for development should be considered in the polls.
“Ghanaians must reject leaders with a borrowing mindset. We have enough resources here at home. We don’t need to go out and borrow. We should accept only leaders prepared to enable Ghana derives maximum benefit from its natural resource wealth,” he said in a post on his page
Ghanaians go to the polls to elect a president and Members of Parliament to steer the affairs of the country for the next for years starting January 7, 2025.
Dr Kwakye in a separate post on X identified six key factors that will determine the results of the 2024 general elections in Ghana.
He listed the factors as the economy, illegal small-scale mining (Galamsey), corruption, nepotism & cronyism, LGBTQI issues, and the free Senior High School programme.
“Elections are almost invariably a judgement on the incumbent administration—its record,” he said.
“Six factors that will determine the outcome of the Dec 7 election are: 1. The economy; 2. Galamsey; 3. Corruption; 4. Nepotism and Cronyism; 5. LGBTQ+; and 6. Free Senior High School,” he stressed.
