2017 GJA awardees receive prizes

The Ghana Journalists Association has presented prizes to awardees of the 2016 GJA Awards.  Journalist of the Year Kwame Sefa Kayi, though not present at the event, received a 200,000 cedi-three bedroom house while other award winners received cash prizes ranging between 2,000 and 7,000 cedis and plaques. TV3’s Portia Gabor, who received the Komla Dumor Most Promising Journalist and Best TV News Reporting awards, took home two plaques and a cash prize of 7,000 Cedis. Peter Quao Adattor also of TV3 who was awarded the Best TV Health Reporter received a cheque for 2,000 Cedis and a plaque. Journalists who received more than one award went home with a corresponding amount of an additional 2,000 Cedis. Others who were honoured for extensively reporting on the fight against illegal mining, including TV3’s  Kwabena Adu Gyamfi, also received cash prizes and plaques. The Chief Executive Officer of Koan Estates, the major sponsors of the awards, Kofi Anokye, announced a package for journalists who want to own houses at their media village. President of the Ghana Journalists Association Affail Monney explained the delay in the presentation of the prizes. “Everything was done in a rush, so the plaques were airlifted from China.
