The Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Private Roads Transport Union (GPRTU) , Alhaji Abass Imoro has said that drivers have agreed to increase fuel prices any time fuel prices go up by 10 per cent.
Drivers have increased transport fares by drivers by 15 per cent.
A statement issued by the Road Transport Operators on Tuesday February 22 said “In line with the administrative arrangements on public transport fares, the Road Transport Operators after intense negotiations with stakeholders and in consideration of the plight of drivers , Commuters and the General Public, have agreed to increase public transport fares by 15 per cent.
It added “Due to current trends on the international market and its impact on domestics prices we have resolved with stakeholders to review transport fares whenever the cumulative net effect is 10 per cent or more.”
Speaking on this development on the Sunrise show on 3FM Tuesday February 22, Alhaji Abass Imoro said “Any ten percent increase in the fuel prices will automatically affect transport fares or there will be upward adjustment in transport fares until the government scraps the taxes and levies.”
He added “If the taxes and levies are not removed we will employ other weapons as a union.”
