NDC’s planned EP: Will Philip Addison be there for Akufo-Addo? – Gyampo asks

December 29, 2020

A Professor at the University of Ghana, Ransford Gyampo, has asked whether private legal practitioner Mr Philip Addison who was the lead counsel for the then presidential candidate Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, his running mate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and the then National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Jake Obetsebi Lamtpey in the 2012 election petition, will still be available following a plan by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to file an election petition at the supreme court against the results of the 2020 elections.

Prof Gyampo said he has seen a list of top notch lawyers of the NDC lacing their shoes to tackle the petition if the party files it successfully.

He wrote on his Facebook page that “I have seen the galaxy of NDC legal brains heading to the Supreme Court over the 2020 elections.

“Will the fierce and competent Philip Addison be there for the NPP? Dude wasn’t fairly treated after his service to the NPP in the 2013 election petition.”

The NDC have said they will be filing a petition to challenge the results of the 2020 presidential election at the Supreme Court on Wednesday.

A member of the legal team of the NDC, Rockson-Nelson Este Kwami Dafeamekpor who is also Member of Parliament for South Danyi revealed on Joy FM Saturday December 26.

He said “Whatever result declaration that have been made must be in accordance with the CI 127, it is as simple as that.”

When asked who has the power to declare the elections null and void, he answered “it will take a court of law to do that. So somebody has to complain that the law has not been complied with and that is what the NDC is doing. So we will go to court, we have made that clear.

“Certainly by Wednesday all these matters will be placed before the court. We are suing the presidential as well.”

Former President John Dramani Mahama refused to accept defeat after the December 7 polls.

The Presidential Candidate of the NDC claimed that the results were manipulated by the Electoral Commission in favour of the incumbent President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo hence his inability to accept the outcome.
