NDC aspirants registering NPP members for upcoming primaries – Karbo alleges

New Patriotic Party Parliamentary Candidate for the Lawra Constituency, Anthony Karbo, has alleged that some parliamentary aspirants of the National Democratic Congress, are registering some NPP members in order to better their chances in the party’s upcoming primaries.

The former NPP National Youth Organizer who made the revelation on TV3’s New Day on Tuesday, says the party will officially issue a statement on the worrying development, whiles educating its members to stay away from the NDC’s registration process.

Mr. Karbo said he has personally received complaints from the Lawra constituency where the registration is taking place.

According to him, those NDC aspirants seeking to register members of the NPP are luring the vulnerable rural folks with promises of loans, fertilizers and other freebies.

Mr. Karbo said if the NDC does not check the emerging trend, they will end up having their candidates being elected by non-members of the NDC.

Mr. Karbo thus cautioned members of the NPP to stay away from the process.

But NDC MP for Adaklu in the Volta Region, Kwame Agbodza, questioned the veracity of Mr. Karbo’s claims and the rationale for such an act by NDC aspirants.

According to him, the party is registering its members merely based on details of existing biometric data.

Although he admitted such issues had not come to their notice, he stated that perhaps those NPP members allowing themselves to be registered to vote in the NDC’s upcoming primaries, are only defecting to join the NDC.

Some six thousand polling stations are to be opened across the country for all registered members of the NDC to elect candidates for the 2016 elections.

Voting will be by biometric means and the expansion of qualified voters for the presidential and parliamentary primaries to cover all registered party members effectively abolishes the delegates system.

Mr. Karbo says inasmuch as the NDC’s extension of the electoral college just like the NPP attempted at its last primaries is commendable, the party would have to be weary of some the excesses that are coming up.
