Nana Addo to speak at JB Danquah symposium

Leader of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has been lined up as one of the three speakers for a symposium to be held in honour of Dr Joseph Boakye Danquah.

The symposium is to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the death of Dr JB Danquah.

He died on February 4, 1965 at the Nsawam Medium Security Prisons while in detention.

“To commemorate this day, the Okyenhene, Osagyefuo Amotia Ofori Panin; the Royal Asona Family of Adadientem; and the children of the Dr. J. B. Danquah have organised a series of activities on the day, February 4, to celebrate the life of the ‘doyen of Gold Coast politics’,” a statement says.

The symposium will be chaired by Former Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament Professor Mike Aaron Oquaye.

Other speakers lined up to join Nana Addo for the event to be held at the Accra International Conference Center are Professor SKB Asante, who will speak on ‘Dr Danquah’s sacrifice and service to Mother Ghana’, and C. K. Tedam, who will address the gathering on ‘Dr Danquah and the Northern People’s Party’.

“The final event for the day will be a procession of family, friends and well-wishers from the Maronite Church to the Danquah Circle, in Osu.”
