
Nana Akufo-Addo will assume the presidency on January 7, 2017[/caption] President-elect Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has named Former Minister of Interior Albert Kan-Dapaah as Minister of National Security. The former Member of Parliament for Afigya-Sekyere West Constituency will assume the role after confirmation by Parliament. Nana Akufo-Addo disclosed this on Wednesday, January 4 at his residence in Accra. In a brief event, the president-elect, who will be inaugurated officially as the 5th President of Fourth Republic on Saturday, named “distinguished soldier” Brigadier General Emmanuel Okyere as the National Security Advisor. He also named a former Director of the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI), Joshua Kyeremeh, as the National Security Coordinator. According to the president-elect, the announcement is to get his security apparatus working immediately after his investiture. Nana Akufo-Addo also confirmed the appointment of former MP Frema Osei Opare as Chief of Staff. She will therefore assume the role as the first woman to supervise affairs at the presidency. Two deputies for Mrs Osei were appointed by the president-elect. Francis Asenso Boakye and Samuel Abu Jinapor will serve in those positions. Director of Communications at the Presidency will be Eugene Arhin, who has over the past two years, served as Press Aide for Nana Akufo-Addo. Heading operations at the Presidency will be Lord Oblitey Commey, a former National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). Victor Newman will be Director of Research at the Office of the President. Renown lawyer Nana Asante Bediatuo has been confirmed as the Secretary to the President. Former Ambassador to Iran Hassan Ahmed will head the State Protocol Department as its Director, as per Nana Akufo-Addo’s appointment. Executive Assistant for Nana Akufo-Addo Saratu Atta and Clara Napaga Tia Sulemana will serve as Presidential Staffers.
