A student of Alhassan Gbanzaba Memorial School, Nadia Chelpang Mashoud, has been crowned the 2020 Spelling Bee winner.
She beat competition from 150 other contest to emerge winner.
The final of the competition was held on Saturday, February 1 at the Great Hall of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).
By her feat, Nadia becomes the first person from the Norther Region to win the competition.
She takes over from Kwabena Adu Darko-Asare, who won last year’s edition.
As a result of winning the competition, Nadia will represent Ghana in the 93rd Scripts Spelling Bee contest to be held in Washington DC, USA.
She also gets GH¢4,000, a trophy, a DSTV decoder with one year’s subscription, and GHS 1,000 gift voucher for books, a certificate of recognition, among other prizes from sponsors.
Aku-Mishee Araba Allotey of the University of Ghana Basic School placed second while Joel Ato Kwamena Ahin Dennis of Victoria Grammar School placed 3rd.
Aku-Mishee receives a return ticket to Kenya, cash prize of GH҃¢2,000, GH¢ 800 worth of gift voucher for books, a silver medal, a DSTV decoder plus 6 months’ subscription, a certificate of recognition, among other prizes.
Joel Dennis, on the other hand, takes home a cash prize of GH¢1,500, a DSTV decoder, GH¢500 worth of gift voucher for books, a bronze medal, certificate of recognition among other prizes from sponsors.
