Murdered journo: Provide credible evidence and stop issuing threats – Dery

January 18, 2019
Ambrose Dery is the Interior Minister

The Interior Minister Ambrose Dery has warned against the issuance of ultimatum to the Police to find persons behind the murder of a member of Anas Aremeyaw Anas investigative team in Accra Wednesday night.

He told journalists Friday that they will not tolerate such acts, warning persons who take the law into their own hands will not be spared, as they will be arrested.

Mr. Dery who is on his maiden visit to the Police Criminal Investigations Department headquarters in Accra rather wants people to provide evidence and credible information on the case rather than issuing ultimatum.

Ahmed Hussein-Suale who was a key member of Anas’ private investigations team, Tiger Eye PI, was shot dead at Madina while driving home.

Rape, murder cases reduced drastically in Eastern Region – Minister

  • Anas’ key partner shot dead in Madina

He was said to have been shot three times in the chest and neck at close range just few metres to his home, allegedly by two unknown assailants who were riding on a motorbike.

A day after the murder, relatives of the deceased started demanded justice for Ahmed who played a key role in Anas Aremeyaw’s Number12 investigative documentary that exposed deep-rooted corruption in Ghana’s football.

Ahmed’s cousin, Abdul Jalil Yakubu told journalists Thursday the family was giving the police a week ultimatum to make headway in the investigations into the murder case, failure of which will cause them to react.

“What we need is justice” he said but added “when the justice fails we will react”.

He said they were Dagombas and thus fearless in taking any action necessary. But the Interior Minister said the Police will take none of these.

“We need information; we need credible information and we need timeous information so I want to use this information to appeal to all that we should bring the information to the Police; the CID and not through the media,” he said.

He said any delay in providing the Police CID with evidence, may cause distortions, stating “If we delay in bringing it and we put it through the media, then probably by the time we are getting the information, a lot of distortions might have taken place”.

The Interior Minister thus advised information which may lead to the arrest of the perpetrators  should be brought to the Police CID and “we will utilise it”.

  • Ken’s comment unfortunate but let’s be careful; it’s early days yet – Anas advises

Director General of Police CID, Maame Yaa Tiwah Addo- Danquah assured the public they were working tirelessly to ensure that there is closure in the latest cases before them.

She particularly mentioned the Menzgold crisis, the killing of the marketing and public affairs manager of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority at the Tema Port, Josephine Asante as well as Ahmed’s killing which they were working to bring closure to.
