Renowned film director, producer and CEO of MiracleFilms Samuel Nyamekye has hinted that his outfit will release a local Telenovela under the script name KumnaVela.

Ghanaians especially women have developed a flaming taste for Mexican and Indian television episodes to the point of ignoring home-made movies.

This development has dwindled the fortunes of the Ghanaian movie industry.

However, speaking exclusively to Tony Best on Akoma FM‘s Entertainment 360 on Saturday, awarding movie director Samuel Nyamekye, popularly known as ‘Miracle’, indicated that in order to revive the dying Kumawood industry and stop the inroads of foreign telenovelas, his outfit will introduce suspense and captivity in Ghana’s version of telenovela to bridge the gap.

“The KumnaVela is different from the traditional movie,” he explained.

“It will take the form of television series with suspense. If we are unable to stay at par with the foreign series, we can be confident that we have tried to stay close.

“The reason we chose to toe that line is because the telenovela has come to stay and they have been successful so there is nothing wrong copying something that has stood the test of time.

“KumnaVela is not going to use the storyline of the foreign Telenovelas, we are going to our own story so that we’ll have our Ghanaian content.”
