Minister of State at the Office of the President Rockson Ayine Bukari has resigned.
His resignation comes after a leaked tape records him trying to bribe a journalist to drop a story on Chinese mining company Shaanxi Mining Company in the Upper East Region.
He told the journalist – Starr FM’s Upper East Region correspondent Edward Adeti – the publication would affect the relationship between the Chinese managers and the traditional authorities, specifically the Tongorana.
In his letter of resignation to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Monday, Mr Bukari stated that his decision to resign has been taken “in order not to allow the tape to disrupt the focus of government in delivering on its mandate”.
He added that he resigned “as a matter of principle”.
The resignation has since been accepted by President Akufo-Addo.
A statement from his office wished Mr Bukari well in his future endeavours.
