Minister kicks out group: No press conference at KNUST

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei-Mensah has disallowed a planned press conference scheduled to be held on the campus of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).

The event is supposed to take place at the University Hall (Katanga) tomorrow 26th October, 2018.

The regional minister who doubles as the Chairman of the Regional Security Council (REGSEC) did not mention the name of the group that intends to hold the press conference, but was emphatic in a statement that, “the Regional Security Council wishes to state clearly that this is not permissible and will not be allowed”.

Simon Osei-Mensah explained, “Currently, the KNUST, following the disturbance on Monday, 22″ October, 2018, has been declared a Security Zone and Press Conference cannot be held there.”

He further stated that it is the expectation of the REGSEC that this directive will be complied with for “peace and security to prevail”.

He assured that the appropriate authorities are working tirelessly to get the problem resolved and the University re-opened for academic work as soon as possible.
