The Media General Group will on Thursday, June 10, host a public forum on TV3, 3FM and on their digital platforms to seek answers on whose job it is to fix Ghana in the wake of a youth-led advocacy to fix the country.
The forum will also explore what exactly needs to be fixed and how that can be done.
This comes on the back of the #FixTheCountry movement which has awoken the consciousness of Ghanaians to both their daily and perennial challenges. The advocacy, originated online, engineered by young people, has been met with counter government responses which analysts have described as insensitive.
The public forum will thus provide a platform for young people to diagnose the problems of the country and proffer solutions in five (5) thematic areas which according to Afrobarometer surveys are the topmost problems the youth want government to address. There are Unemployment, Education, Healthcare delivery, Crime and Security, and Corruption.
Speakers answer specific questions that relate to their areas of expertise. Former U.N Senior Governance Advisor, Prof. Bafour AgyemanDuah will speak on ‘Integrity in Governance; Taking the Social Contract Seriously’, and Investigative Journalist and Editor-In-Chief of ‘The Fourth Estate’, Manasseh Azure Awuni, will speak on ‘Corruption and abuse of power in Government’.
The other speakers are, Consultant at Blackbridge Consulting Group, Maame Awinador Kanyirige, who will be speaking on ‘Youth Unemployment and Crime’ and President and CEO of Institute of Security, Disaster and Emergency Studies, Dr. Ishmael Norman who will speak on ‘An Effective National Security Structure and the “Galamsey” problem’.
All these issues have come up strongly in the #FixTheCountry campaign and a forum seeking to find answers and solutions to them is a worthy cause. The public can participate in the forum by joining on Zoom on https://rb.gy/5h0u27 at 11:00am.
Meanwhile, General Manager for News at Media General, Sedem Ofori has been explaining why the forum is necessary at this time and why every citizen has to be a part of it .
