After winning the 2012 polls, he lost to Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in the 2016 elections.

But his return to contest the seat for the third time depends on the January 26 primary of the NDC.

He was unopposed in his two previous polls to lead the NDC.

But in his third bid, some party stalwarts, some of whom were his appointees, have picked forms to contest the party’s presidential primary.

Though some of these aspirants have complained about the filing fee and calendar for the primary, the former president has remained neutral and at every point willing to abide by the directives of the National Executive Committee (NEC).

His campaign has also focused on the incumbent government.

  • Mahama camp worried NDC is not focusing on Akufo-Addo’s ‘misgovernance’

A statement from his campaign spokesperson, James Agyenim Boateng, on Saturday said Mr Mahama will proceed – after filing his forms – to Pavilion A of the Trade Fair Centre to address the media.
