President John Dramani Mahama has sacked the Ashanti regional regional Minister, Samuel K. Sarpong and his deputy, Joseph Yamin.
This was contained in a statement signed by the Communications Minister, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah.
Reasons for the sacking was not stated but Brong Ahafo regional minister, Eric Opoku has been asked to act as Ashanti regional Minister until a substantive minister is appointed.
There has been rising tension between some youth groups of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) which had led to deepening cracks with the party.
One group, sources say supports the regional minister and the other, pays allegiance to the party’s regional chairman. This break in the rank and file of the NDC in the region led to the locking up of the party’s headquarters and offices in the region.
Reliable information reaching tv3network.com indicates that Mr. Samuel Sarpong, the regional minister was expected to hold a meeting with the angry youth group who locked up the party offices.
With the latest development, it is unclear whether the meeting would come off or not
