The New Patriotic Party has suspended its General Secretary Kwabena Agyapong and the second Vice Chairperson, Sammy Crabbe from the party indefinitely.
This decision follows a marathon meeting between the National Executive Committee (NEC) to consider the earlier recommendation by the Disciplinary Committee of the party.
Mr. Agyapong was said to have pleaded for mercy from the leadership of the party with other senior executives who joined in his plea but all of that fell on deaf ears.
There was wild jubilation and champagne poppoing when news started trickiling in the the NEC has upheld the decision to suspend Mr. Agyapong.
Flagbearer of the party, Nana Akufo Addo was present at the meeting and moments after the decision was taken, Mr. Ayapong left the party headquarters.
Some members of the party had earlier petitioned the leadership of the party to suspend Mr. Agyapong and Sammy Crabbe for what they describe as ‘deliberately undermining’ the efforts of the party to win power in 2016.
The four persons were Chris Arthur, Former President of TESCON-KNUST, Adreba Kwaku Abrefa Damoa and Kwabena Afum Dankwa both who live in London and Kwame Baffoe, NPP Regional Youth Organiser in the Brong Ahafo region.
The Disciplinary Committee had earlier requested that the two be given 15 months suspension but after the marathon meeting the decision was upheld. The General Secretary would be out for 15 months but Sammy Crabbe’s suspension is indefinite.
A few months back the party suspended its National Chairman, Paul Afoko following persistent internal wrangling within the leadership of the party.
Meanwhile Mr. Afoko has given strong indications that he remains the national chairman of the party. The two, Mr. Agyapong and Sammy Crabbe were against the party’s decision to suspend Mr. Afoko. They were believed to be loyal to the suspended Mr. Afoko.
