Mohammed Kudus scored twice as Ajax cruised to a 5-0 win over SC Heerenveen in the Eredivisie on Saturday.
The Ghana international was handed his first league start of the season and scored in the 48th and 59th minutes to keep Ajax unbeaten so far this season.
The 22-year-old has now scored in three consecutive games, following goals against Cambuur last weekend and Rangers in midweek.
With four goals in three games, Kudus’ return to the bench will be difficult because he has proven beyond reasonable doubt that he deserves to start.
The midfielder was extremely frustrated when the season began and he was assigned to the bench, playing only 30 minutes in three games.
Kudus wanted to leave Ajax during the transfer window, agreeing personal terms with English club Everton and boycotting training to force his departure. But Ajax refused to sell.
Kudus has played more minutes since the window closed. He has started two games, scoring four goals, registering one assist, and earning two man of the match awards.
His excellent scoring form is also great news for the Black Stars ahead of their games against Brazil and Nicaragua later this month.
Kudus is part of Otto Addo’s 29-man squad for the pre-World Cup games.
