Kotoko lose 1-0 at home to Al Hilal

December 23, 2020

Kotoko’s CAF Champions League campaign may have ended after they were beaten in Accra by Sudanese giants Al Hilal Omdurman.

Kotoko needed to make the home advantage count in the crucial game but Hilal were stronger in their quest to hit the ground running in this fixture away from home.

Hilal’s Vinnt Bongonga Kombe scored to give the Sudanese a clear advantage going into the second leg.

Kombe has scored 8 goals in the 14 CAF Champions League matches and this further strengthens his stranglehold on the competition.

The Porcupine Warriors came close a few times. Trying their luck from distance most times, not able to control the game and losing possession when it mattered.

There were several top Kotoko men in the stands looking on.

Among them was former Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah.

Kotoko will now have to play above themselves in Omdurman in two weeks to defeat Al Hilal and qualify or drop into the CAF Confederation Cup.
