One of four persons who were shot when some angry youth of Mo attacked the Kintampo Divisional Police Station has died.
The youth were at the police station to demand the release of about eight of their colleagues on detention on Tuesday in the Bono East Region.
The police had to call for military reinforcement when they were gradually being outnumbered by the teeming youth.
The Brong Ahafo Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Chief Inspector Augustine Kingsley Oppong, confirmed to Onua FM’s Yen Sempa on Wednesday that the other three who sustained gunshot wounds are receiving treatment at a local hospital.
He told the host, Bright Kwasi Asempa, that the violence was triggered by a misunderstanding between two groups who were bathing at the Kintampo waterfalls so the police called for reinforcement.
Chief Insp. Kingsley Oppong explained that in the course of calming the youth down, some attempted to overpower one army officer and in the process, stabbed him.
“They stabbed a soldier on the hand,” he said.
He said this compelled the army officer to fire some gunshots which killed one person and injured others.
“Three persons sustained injuries and one died. Eight of them were arrested. We can say there is average calm now but we are on the ground”, he explained.
The eight persons arrested were expected to go to court on Wednesday.
Chief Insp Kingsley Oppong said “we shall take them to court today. We have taken the keys to the Water Falls and work is ongoing now”.
