King Faisal stunned Asante Kotoko with a 3-2 win in the Kumasi derby on Sunday afternoon at the Baba Yara Stadium.
Zubairu Ibrahim was deservedly named man of the match as he scored all three goals for King Faisal to condemn Kotoko to their first defeat of the season.
Kotoko came into the encounter unbeaten in five matches and conceded just one goal but before the 20th minute, they trailed 2-0.
Ibrahim scored his first five minutes into the game and added the second in the 18th minute.
Kotoko thought they would end the first half with a goal because they were awarded a controversial penalty by referee Juliana Nunoo. But fourth referee Daniel Laria intervened and Nunoo reversed his decision.
Two minutes after the halftime break, Kotoko pulled a goal back thanks to their Cameroonian forward Mfegue Omgba.
As Kotoko pushed for the equaliser, Ibrahim completed his hat-trick in the 68th minute but Omgba scored again four minutes later.
Kotoko threw more men forward to try and salvage a point but King Faisal were resolute and claimed their first league win over the Reds in seven years.
The win sees King Faisal replace Kotoko as Ghana Premier League leaders.
