Kia truck driver absconds after killing one and injuring others at Ashaiman

One person has reportedly died and six injured.

A driver of a Kia Rheno has reportedly bolted after running into people, killing one and injuring 6 others at Ashaiman in Accra.

At least 5 vehicles were also damaged by by the Kia truck.

The Commander of the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ashaiman Police Divisional Command, DSP Isaac Kojo Forson, confirmed the accident to 3FM, indicating the driver of the vehicle could not be found when the police arrived at the scene.

This, he said, was after the police received a distress call around 9am Thursday about the accident.

According to him, the driver was heading towards the main Ashaiman traffic light  from the Ashaiman Senior High School.

He said the driver of the truck run into the people most of whom are traders on reaching the Barclays Bank which is around the traffic light.

Investigations are still ongoing to establish the main cause of the accident, he added.

Meanwhile, a disturbing amateur video sighted by 3news.com shows the Kia truck loaded with cement blocks run through a busy street running on people, vehicles and anything on its way as people try to stop it.

The injured, according to DSP Isaac Kojo Forson, are receiving treatment at the Emergency Unit if the Tema General Hospital while the deceased who died upon arrival at the hospital has  been deposited at the morgue waiting autopsy.
