Kaneshie: Classy Mt. Zion wins 2019 Pentecost Youth Sports Fiesta

Full of ecstatic and enthusiastic youth, the Mt. Zion Worship Centre in the Kaneshie Area of the Church of Pentecost, dusted off their poor show in their first appearance in the Area Youth Fiesta and Evangelism Games to make a categorical statement in this year’s.

Showing pure class in most of the disciplines, the two-year-old Worship Centre politely brushed off the big names to emerge champions of this year’s event held at the Accra Academy park on Easter Monday.

They amassed a total of 24 points to be crowned 2019 Champions.

In all, 21 Districts and Worship Centres took part in events like football, volleyball, table tennis, athletics, lime and spoon, sack race, tug of peace, ampe, jama competition and eating competition. There were non-scoring games like ludo, draught, and oware.

Having won eight disciplines and placing well in others, the lad and lasses from Mt. Zion Worship Centre silenced the likes of Kaneshie, Darkuman, Bubiashe, Mataheko, Israel and Adwen-Bu to take home the coveted trophy.

Unlike last year where the Kaneshie Area Head, Apostle Mike Etrue featured less than 10 minutes for the select side – Area Team -, his first experience of the fiesta, he took his training rather seriously this time, and was able to go the full haul this year.

This is the fifth consecutive time the Sports Fiesta and Evangelism event is being held by the Kaneshie Area Youth Ministry. The event, which has won the hearts of the youth in the Area, evident by the growing number of participants yearly, was initiated by the Area Youth Pastor, Rev. Daniel Okyei-Boakye and his executives in 2015. His foresight was acknowledged when the Kaneshie Area Head, Aps. Mike Etrue, on behalf of the Area Youth Ministry, presented an artwork with the portrait of Pastor Okyei-Boakye and wife Abigail to the Area Youth Pastor.

Pastor Daniel Okyei-Boakye is also the Resident Pastor at the Abossey Okai Worship Centre.

The fiesta is also use to highlight and celebrate the resurrection power of Jesus Christ aimed at winning more souls for the Christ.

After Monday’s games, North Kaneshie came second with 21 points whilst the Shalom Worship Centre and Israel District sharing the spoilt in third position.

The first Youth Sports Fiesta in 2015 was won by Israel District. Previous winners are: Mataheko District, 2016; Bubiashie District, 2017; and Chantan District, 2018.
