“Please don’t call me arrogant, but I’m a European champion and I think I’m a special one,” said Mourinho at his first press conference when he was appointed as head coach of Chelsea FC in 2004.
Jose at that time was the most sought after coach in the world – he had won the coveted UEFA Champions League tittle with a less fancied FC Porto side a year before.
The Portuguese came to Chelsea with high hopes and delivered everything he was brought in to do – won trophies and built a solid side.
His contract at Chelsea FC came to an end and he moved to Inter Millan with many understanding why he said he was the Special One.
At Inter, he won them their first treble in their history and also their first UEFA Champions League tittle in 46 years- they are yet to win any since that time.
After Inter, he moved to Real Madrid with one motive; to end FC Barcelona’s dominance in the Spanish La Liga.
Mourinho left Spain with a La Liga medal.
Once a Manager so many people trusted, his journey has in the past 6 years been the opposite of what he is known for – losing jobs due to poor results.
He has been fired in his last three jobs, something that he is not noted for.
The latest job he has been relieved off from is the Tottenham Hotspurs head coach role.
Spurs might not be his last club, maybe he will come back to the dugout in search of a silverware but Jose Mourinho is gradually losing it and the man who once was the ‘Special One’, is now becoming the ‘Sacked One’
