Former President John Dramani Mahama has promised to carry out a clean campaign in his bid to lead the party again.
John Mahama gave this assurance after he submitted his nomination forms at the party’s headquarters in Accra on Monday, December 17.
He stated that the flagbearership race is not a do or die affair, as all aspirants are working in the interest of the NDC as a party.
“I want to thank my colleagues who have made this very competitive, and to say that this is a very friendly competition amongst members of the same party.
“And I want to promise you, and pledge to you that I will maintain the ethics of a very clean campaign, and I am positive that at the end of the process, John Mahama Dramani will emerge as the candidate of the NDC,” he noted.
Mr. Mahama also said the exercise of going round the country as part of requirements to compete for the flagbearer position has been very important in energizing the base of the NDC, making room for aspirants to touch base with the party supporters.
He said he is focused on emerging winner of the race in order to return the NDC to power in the 2020 elections to continue the ‘good work’ the party was doing for the country under his leadership.
The flagbearer election is scheduled for Saturday, January 26, 2018.
The former President is contesting alongside the former CEO of NHIA Sylvester Mensahformer, former UPSA Vice Chancellor, Professor Joshua Alabi, and Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin who have all filed.
