New Patriotic Party’s Joe Ghartey has retained his seat in Monday’s elections.
The Minister of Railways Development ensured his supremacy on the Essikado-Ketan Constituency seat in a battl,e which was closely contested by Dr Grace Ayensu Danquah of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The declaration of the results had to delay for some hours after some misunderstanding between the NPP and NDC officials at the Constituency Collation Center.
Results were, however, announced on Tuesday afternoon after all scores were settled and Joe Ghartey won by a margin of 2,174 votes to retain the seat.
Out of the total number of votes cast, Joe Ghartey polled 26,701 followed closely by Dr Grace Ayensu-Danquah, who polled 24,527 votes.
Final results as declared by the Electoral Commission at the Collation Centre.
NPP: 26,701
NDC: 24,527
GUM: 629
Total votes cast: 52,342
Rejected: 535
This is the fifth time Joe Ghartey has won the seat since it was created in 2004.
