Vice president Mahamudu Bawumia has asked Ghanaians to disregard posters suggesting that he has declared intentions to contest the New Patriotic Party flagbearership ahead of the 2020 presidential election.
A poster of the vice president emerged Thursday suggesting he has declared intentions to contest the flagbearership, and urged NPP members to vote for him to lead the NPP into the next elections.
“Vote Dr. Bawumia for 2020,” the poster which has the NPP logo stated, and further described him as the “Northern Muslim with the competency to lead the NPP” into the 2020 elections.
But the vice president’s office has issued a statement to debunk the suggestion, stating the posters have been put out with the intention to cause disaffection for him.
“It is clear that the perpetrator(s) of this act intend to cause disaffection for the Vice President but their campaign will fail,” the statement signed by Frank Agyei-Twum, Communications Director of Dr. Bawumia said.
“For the avoidance of doubt, we wish to state unequivocally that the posters are the figment of the imagination of the originator(s), and we call on all Ghanaians and the general public to treat the poster campaign with the contempt it deserves,” it added.
