Int’l friendly: Mali beat Ghana 3-0

The Eagles of Mali defeated the Black Stars of Ghana by 3-0 in an international friendly on Friday, October 9, 2020 at the Emir Hotel Sports Complex in Turkey.

CK Akonnor handed starting roles to three debutants namely Tarique Fosu, Alexander Djiku and Eugene Ansah in a 4-3-3 formation.

Hamari Traore scored the opening goal for the Eagles of Mali as early as the 3rd minute after a counter attack, which left defender Gideon Mensah failing to clear his lines. Traore scored from close range.

The Black Stars failed to register a single shot on target in the first half.

In search for an equalizer, CK Akonnor subbed Eugene Ansah and brought on Kamaal Deen on the 41st minute.

Mali started the second half stronger just as they did the first as they scored their second of the evening within three minutes.

Toure El Bilal connected to Hamari Traore’s cross to beat Lawrence Ati-Zigi.

Amiens FC’s midfielder Emmanuel Lomotey had his debut as he replaced Bernard Mensah in the 54th minute. Nicholas Opoku also limped off and was replaced by Joseph Aidoo.

Mali had their third goal through Haidra in another counter break.

His initial effort hit the goal post but he made good the rebound as he scored Mali’s third goal.

Ghana will play Qatar next at the Emir Hotel Sports Complex on Monday, October 12,2020.
