Newly elected flagbearer of the Convention People’s Party (CPP) Ivor Kobina Greenstreet has called on defeated presidential aspirants and their supporters to rally behind him as he leads the party into this year’s elections.
There are reports Mr Greenstreet’s victory last Saturday has left sour taste in the mouths of supporters of the defeated aspirants especially those of former National Chairman Samia Yaba Nkrumah.
But in his rallying call, Mr Greenstreet said he could do to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party – Ghana’s two major poltical parties – what he has done to Samia Nkrumah and the two others.
“They should forgive and forget being defeated,” he told Kwesi Pratt Jnr in a yet-to-air interview on Hot Issues.
“I think that is where the pain is coming from and the same thing I did to them, the same thing I can do to NDC and NPP.”
The private legal practitioner polled 1,288 votes to emerge the 2016 flagbearer of the leading Nkrumahist party.
The former General Secretary said his victory comes as a surprise to Ghanaians but not to a majority of delegates who gathered inside the International Trade Fair Center.
“They felt that the previous chairman was responsible for the exit of the party for people like Dr Nduom, Dr Sakara and other issues of that nature,” he pointed out in the interview, which will air at midday on Saturday, February 6.
He has called on the defeated aspirants to assist in the party’s campaign to win the 2016 elections.
