An expert in cyber security, Victor Gordon Nyamadi, has cautioned internet users not to be in a haste to subscribe to things online without paying attention to what he called “the end-user agreement”.
He said it could be suicidal when such agreements are ignored.
Speaking at the maiden edition of the Media General Tech Fest, Mr. Nyamadi, who is also the cyber security manager at Vodafone Solutions, advised patrons to be vigilant when accessing online services.
“If you are subscribing to the internet, all that we need is fast let me get the service. Do we really take the time to go through what we call the end user agreement?” he quizzed.
He noted that even though network providers by law are not allowed to share users’ data with third parties, it is still important to confirm that there is a provision in the agreement which takes care of that.
“But ordinarily a service provider would not share your data with a third party. If that concern is not there, already you might have subscribed to it without even knowing,” he said.
Mr. Nyamadi also warned that telephone calls that echo may risked being bugged and advised that such calls be ditched.
Meanwhile, all the cyber security experts who spoke at the event agree that cyber security is a real threat to internet users, especially Ghanaians.
