Ghana international Thomas Teye Partey has said up until the moment his agent told him he will become a Gunner, he had no idea the transfer will happen.
Thomas Partey signed for Arsenal on transfer deadline day and the news was well received by the fans of the Premier League club.
Right before he signed the deal, his name was in the headlines but the midfielder said he was not sure of the signing till the last minute.
“Well, until the last moment I was not aware,” Partey told Arsenal.com.
“My agent called me and said it was going to happen, and I was so happy. I could not even sleep that night – it was a great feeling.”
He went on to say he was overwhelmed by the love the supporters have shown him so far.
“I was so happy, I was excited. I was not even here yet and [the fans] were crazy over me, they wanted me to join the club,” he said.
“I received a lot of messages saying, ‘Join the club or we are not sleeping!’ – it was a great feeling.”
The 27-year-old asserted that Arsenal is a prominent club and he will work with the team to ensure the world sees that.
“This a great club, it is one of the biggest clubs in Europe and it is a club that deserves to be aspiring for greater things and I think it doesn’t happen in a day, we have to work hard to make sure we are back to where we belong.
“I want to make everyone feel happy.”
