The 36-year-old man arrested at the Ringway Gospel Assemblies of God Church, where President John Mahama and Chief Justice Theodora Woode worship, has confessed he wanted to kill the president because he was unhappy with the way the country is being run.

He made the confession on Tuesday, July 28 at the Accra Circuit Court, where he is standing trial for second degree felony.

Charles Antwi, who hails from the Brong Ahafo Region, had been arrested during church service by National Security on Sunday, July 26 after being fidgety.

A search on him found a fully loaded pistol, which the prosecutor revealed in court was double-barrelled and given to him by a Burkinabe.

He told the court on Tuesday that he had been directed to the church by a soldier and it was his fourth consecutive Sunday at the church.

It was also revealed that the suspect had been to countries like Libya and Mali before.

He has been handed a 10-year prison sentence by the Court.
