Staff of Pentecost Hospital awarded Best Nurse/Midwife in Greater Accra region

Ms. Kate Otoo , a senior midwifery officer of the Pentecost hospital in Madina-Accra has been awarded the best midwife by the Greater Accra Regional branch of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA)’

With over thirteen years of experience and unwavering commitment to her profession, she emerged winner after having participated in the local and district levels for the award scheme. Ms. Otoo says her decision to participate in the regional level came from her superior (in-charge) and she heeded to the advice which yielded positive results.

Representing her resident hospital, she described the competition as tough and intense as she had to contend with equally competent representatives from various health facilities in the region. Per the requirements, each participant was required to present unique maternal innovations. Her innovative Birth Before Arrival kit (BBA box) stood out and landed her the prestigious award.

According to her, the box contains essential items which serves as a life-saving kit and ensures prompt attention to complications during childbirth enhancing emergency preparedness of midwives. What impressed the judges is the uniqueness of her innovation and the significant role it is going to play in helping to reduce maternal mortality.

Ms. Otoo hopes her achievement will be an inspiration to colleagues to explore innovative ideas that can enhance their ability to meet healthcare needs. her achievement has brought honour to the Pentecost Hospital, Madina-Accra, the association and the country at large.

Miss Kate Otoo is a registered midwife with a diploma form St. Patricks’s  Midwife Training School, Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and currently works with Pentecost Hospital in Accra, Gnana.
