Gunshots fired at Chorkor at NPP press conference

There was near pandemonium at Chorkor in the Ablekuma South constituency where some youth fired gunshots and broke bottles to scuttle a press conference being organised by one Ato Quashie, a member of the New Patriotic Party.

The confusion follows what some NPP youth in the area says is contrary to party structures. The youth who are said to be supporters of the party’s flagbearer, Nana Akufo Addo said the man in question, Ato Quashie who described himself as a leading member of the party in the constituency failed to consult constituency executives before calling for the press conference.

They went on further to say he [Ato Quashie] is a staunch supporter of suspended chairman of the party, Paul Afoko and was going to speak against the leadership’s decision to suspend Mr. Afoko.

There was near confrontation when another youth group who supported the suspended chairman, Paul Afoko and were in favour of the press conference clashed with those who destructed the press conference forcing Mr. Ato Quashie to call off the event.

Plastic chairs, bottles, tables and many other movable items were destroyed following the confusion. Speaking to the media, some members of the youth indicated that although they respected Mr. Quashie, they disagreed with him on the subject of the press conference.

“Whatever he wants to do must be a decision of the constituency executives. He cannot decide to do a press conference in the name of NPP and not tell the other executives. He’s a father figure but if we disagree with him we would tell him.”
