The minor died on the spot at Kafaba in the Gonja East district of the Northern Region where the football fans had gathered in front of the chief’s palace to watch the crucial match.
The injured, some in critical condition, were rushed to the Salaga Government Hospital and the Tamale Teaching Hospital respectively for attention.

Even though it is not clear what might have instigated the fatal attack, residents are linking it to a protracted chieftaincy dispute between the people of Kalampor and Kafaba.
Media reports suggest that there is a scheduled enskinment of a sub-chief in Kafaba on Sunday, May 29, which is making residents conclude that the shooting was in protest of the event.
