The Ghana Premier League week 11 will provide fans with intriguing nostalgia in a line up of three fierce regional derbies.
Bechem United on Friday fought from a goal down to record a win over Techiman Eleven Wonders at the Nana Fosu Gyeabor Park.
Samuel Boakye opened the score for the visitors in the first half.
Bechem United youngster Emmanuel Boakye Owusu restored parity for the hunters in the 75th minute.
Listowel Amankona and Hafiz Konkoni scored two late goals to seal the day for Bechem United.
The win sends the Hunters back to the top of the league log with 19 points.
The Mantse derby between Hearts and Olympics is one to watch. The two teams have a loud fan base and whoever goes down will not have it easy at all. It is interesting to note that since 2006, Olympics have not beaten Hearts.
However, Kosta Papic’s men must be weary of complacency against Olympics; Kotoko and WAFA fell to the Dade boys. The good news for Hearts is that Manaf Umar will be back in the line up after missing their previous match due to accumulated yellow cards. He however may have Gladson Awako of Olympics to contend with.
The Ashanti Derby will be as fierce as ever. Both AshGold and Kotoko have 16 points. The Miners are third and the Porcupine Warriors sit in the fifth position on the league log. The only thing separating the two is a goal difference of one. The last time the two met it ended goalless. This time round AshGold will call upon the prolific Hans Kwofie and Kotoko will trust reliable Kwame Opoku to find the back of the net. Whoever wins this one will end Matchday eleven on top of their rival.
Karela and Medeama will also lock horns in the Western derby. The Passioners are currently have 18 points. Their striker, Diawisie Taylor has some eight goals to his name. Karela will play at home where they’ve not lost in three years. The odds seem to be in their favour. But humility will be key in this fixture. Medeama are unbeaten in their last three games and a win could put them in the top four.
Ahead of a weekend where any team can dominate the headlines, expect another heavyweight showdown to play out in the regional derbies.
In a related development, Susan Owusu reports; King Faisal will play host to Berekum Chelsea on Saturday with the “Insha Allah” Boys targeting their second win of the season as they are currently bottom of the league with seven points.
With 10 matches played, Inter Allies who are sitting deep into relegation will take on another struggling side Legon Cities at the Accra Sports Stadium. The Royals are brimming with confidence after thrashing AshantiGold 5-2 to register their 2nd win of the season.
