GPL: Kotoko earn another late victory as King Faisal shock Aduana in Dormaa

Ismail Ganiu and Samuel Boateng scored to propel Asante Kotoko to a 2-0 win against Bechem United in the Ghana Premier League on Sunday.

Kotoko, playing their first match at the Baba Yara Stadium in over year, needed an 87th minute penalty by captain Ganiu and Boateng’s close range header in 94th minute to overcome the stubborn Hunters.

The win was on the back of another Kotoko late show last weekend when they scored three late goals to seal a comeback win against Dreams FC.

The win means Kotoko are first on the table but have the same points as King Faisal who also secured their second straight win of the new season.

Faisal shocked tittle favourites Aduana Stars 3-1 at the Nana Agyemang Badu stadium in Dormaa. The away side needed a strong second half performance to achieve the famous win.

Aduana midfielder Kwame Adam Frimpong cancelled out forward Ibrahim Osman’s 9th minute strike for King Faisal.

But Faisal were the better side in the second half with Osman netting a second after Latif’s goal to clinch victory and condemn Aduana to first home league defeat since 2016.

Also on Sunday, teenage sensation Fatawu Isshaku scored from a direct freekick as Dreams FC earn their first win of the season at the expense of Elmina Sharks while Berekum Chelsea and Eleven Wonders drew goalless.

On Saturday, AshantiGold and Karela United shared the spoils in Obuasi and Legon Cities beat Real Tamale United in a five-goal thriller at Accra Sports Stadium.
