Goosie Tanoh replies critics: Reform Party was never ‘anti-Mills’

November 8, 2018

National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer hopeful, Augustus Goosie Tano, has debunked assertions that the National Reforms Party, which he once led, was against the fortunes of Professor Evans Atta Mills as the NDC presidential candidate.

He was in the past accused of deserted the party (NDC) and critics say he is once again likely to do same should he not win the December 7, 2018 presidential primary.

But Mr. Tanoh has described the allegations as “desperate attempts to distract and derail us with tired historical falsification, and slander” which he said he is not surprised about.

According to him, a feature titled “How Goosie Betrayed NDC …” has recently been published online news portal called in which he was attacked.

The publication in part accused the Reforms Party of being “anti-Mills” but the flagbearer hopeful who is currently on a campaign tour up in the Northern Region explained there existed a very cordial relationship between the Reforms Party and the late Prof. Mills throughout his political career.

“Indeed, it was Prof Mills, as NDC running mate, who averted a CDR and grassroots boycott of the 1996 campaign by promising that the burning issues of internal democracy, exclusion of cadres, and policy drift (away from social democracy) would be addressed once the NDC triumphed at the polls.

“After 2003, NRP leaders supported Professor Mills as NDC candidate and later as Ghana’s President”, a statement he issued read.

He added he has worked for the success of Prof. Mills by endorsing him ahead of the 2008 elections and have since been working behind the scenes.

“Comrade Tanoh, who did a national campaign broadcast for Prof Mills and the NDC in 2008, has since his return to the NDC been working behind the scenes for the good of the party. Goosie has been active in his Krowor Branch and has contributed significantly to NDC parliamentary and Presidential campaigns since 2007”, the statement added.

Mr. Tanoh used the opportunity to catalogue the highlights of the National Reforms Party and the overall history of the NDC, urging all party members to campaign “have a clean campaign and a politics that advances national discourse, the NDC, and the Nation”.
