GMB 2018: Abena comes tops in showcase of culinary skills

Eastern Region’s Abena receives her prize package [/caption] The countdown is on and the four finalists for the 12th edition of TV3 Ghana’s Most Beautiful pageant are gearing up for the grand finale. As that beckons, the contestants took turns during their last live show before the finals to exhibit their culinary skills. Ghana’s Most Beautiful is a pageant which focuses on showcasing all facets of the rich Ghanaian culture, and indigenous Ghanaian dishes cannot be left out of what Ghana offers. Hence, the contestants were expected on Sunday, December 2 to prepare and showcase some rich Ghanaian dishes peculiar to their respective regions. From ‘ampesie’, to ‘ɛtɔ’ amongst other Ghanaian dishes, all four contestants brought their A-game to bear as they treated the judges to some delicious Ghanaian dishes. Ashanti Region’s Afrah kicked off the show displaying her indigenous ‘ɛtɔ’ – mashed ripe plantain – which is mainly a dish for the Akan although Ghanaians the world over enjoy it. [caption id="attachment_106748" align="alignnone" width="600"] Afrah presenting her dishes[/caption] In her presentation, Afrah highlighted the main ingredients for her dish, which includes ripe plantain, palm oil amongst other basic ingredients. Afrah topped her meals with a healthy mango smoothie as dessert. Brong Ahafo Region representative Ohema was next to present her local dish: ‘Akankyiɛ’, mashed ripe plantain with cassava flour. For her dessert, Ohema served seasoned mushroom and snail. After Ohema came Eastern Region’s Abena, who served ‘ampesie’  – boiled plantain – with ‘ofam’ made with Nkontomire and palm oil amongst other basic ingredients. [caption id="attachment_106750" align="alignnone" width="701"] Abena in action[/caption] Upper East’s Wekia came fully prepared as she presented a variety of dishes and beverages from her region. She served bambara beans, ‘tubani’ and some local beverages made with millet and shea butter. [caption id="attachment_106756" align="alignnone" width="612"] Wekia presenting her dishes and beverages[/caption] The judges, Linda Ampah and Bernie Asher, commended the ladies for preparing such delicious dishes. Guest presenter and host of TV3’s Edziban show, Kwame Dzokoto, was in his element as usual as a tasting officer alongside host, Johnnie Hughes on the night. Brong Ahafo Region’s Ohema was also adjudged Star Performer for the night.
