Ghana’s Covid-19 vaccine consignment to be in latest by June

January 4, 2021

Ghana is set to receive her first consignment of Covid-19 vaccines within the first half of this year, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has announced.

He, however, called for strict adherence to the protocols to keep the disease at bay.

President Akufo-Addo made this known in his 21st update to the nation on Sunday, January 3.

In his last update to the nation on Sunday, December 20, the president assured Ghanaians that government was taking steps to access the vaccines already in medication in the US and UK.

The two vaccines are Pfizer/BioNTech and Moderna vaccines.

“Government will ensure that the Covid-19 vaccines to be deployed in the country are effective and are safe,” President Akufo-Addo had stated, calming down anxiety within the citizenry about the safety of the vaccines.

He had announced that experts of stakeholder institutions have been brought together to assess the procurement and deployment of the vaccines.

‘We can do it!’

On Sunday, the president stated: “With Ghana set to procure her first consignment of the COVID vaccines within the first half of this year, there is light at the end of the tunnel.

“But, we are not yet out of the woods. So, let us all continue down the path of strict adherence to the protocols.

“There is nothing beyond us, the Ghanaian people, who were the first in sub-Saharan Africa to gain our freedom from colonial rule. We can do it.”

So far, the country has recorded 55,220 cases of the virus with 54,005 recoveries-cum-discharges.

About 336 patients have died from the virus, leaving 879 active cases in management.
