Ghana's Covid-19 deaths, active cases rise

The latest case count on coronavirus released by the Ghana Health Service (GHS) on Sunday, July 19 has seen a sharp rise in the active cases. From 3,871, the active cases are now 4,270, a situation that will be worrying to stakeholders. The Director General of the Service, Dr Patrick Kuma-Aboagye, has always insisted the number of active cases would tell if the country is winning the fight against the virus. The increase in active cases mean the recoveries are relatively low. The latest case count puts the recoveries-cum-discharges at 23,249. The deaths have also seen a steady rise in the last three updates after staying at 139 for more than one week. The latest release has seen additional three deaths, bringing the total number to 148. The total cumulative cases are now 27,667 after 607 new infections were confirmed. Eight persons are in “critical” conditions while 25 are in “severe” conditions with four on ventilators.
