Three Ghanaian strikers coincidentally scored in the same league on the same day.

Joseph Esso, Kwame Opoku and Daniel Lomotey all made Ghana proud in North Africa as they scored for their respective clubs in the Algerian top-flight league on Monday.

Esso scored first because his team, MC Alger played first before Opoku and Lomotey hit the target for USM Alger and ES Setif respectively.

Interestingly, all three clubs secured three points on the day.

Former Dreams FC and Hearts of Oak forward Esso opened the scoring as MC Alger beat Bordj Bou Arreridj to move into the top six.

Opoku, a former Kotoko striker, netted the winner for USM Alger who claimed a late 2-1 victory over ten-man Paradou to stay in the top four.

And then, former WAFA striker Lomotey scored his debut goal in the 90th minute of ES Setif’s thumping 4-0 win against Biskra. The win takes five points behind league leaders CR Belouizdad with three matches to end the season.

The strikers were in hot form, which earned them lucrative contracts from Algeria, forcing them to leave Ghana in the middle of the just-concluded season.

No Kotoko player could outscore Opoku, who claimed the accolade as the Porcupine Warriors’ top scorer with eight goals.

The same applies to Esso whose 11 goals, before leaving in April, earned him the top scorer award at Dreams FC.

However, Lomotey was outscored by Augustine Boakye at WAFA.
