Ghana’s Black Satellites could not make it to the semi-final stage of the Africa U-20 Cup of Nations after a 1-0 loss to Mali in their final group game.
The Satellites needed at least a draw to make it to the next round, and by extension to the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Poland.
But a sloppy defensive clearance in the second half in Saturday’s Group B match saw Mali’s Hadji Drame lob a throw-in past goalkeeper Nurudeen Abdul Manaf for the separator.
The Malians held on to secure qualification to the semi-finals.
They will face Nigeria on Wednesday.
Senegal also maintained their perfect run in the tournament by beating Burkina Faso 5-1 in the final group game.
They will play South Africa for a place in the final.
