GES denies accrediting schools in Togo for BECE

June 13, 2019

realityapp realityapp realityapp

The Chairman of the Ghana Education Service (GES) Council, Michael Nsowah, says his outfit has not accredited any basic school in Togo to register pupils for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

In an interview on 3FM‘s Sunrise morning show, Mr Nsowah noted that the curriculum is not an international curriculum unlike Cambridge and others; therefore, it is restricted to Ghanaians living and schooling in the country only.

His comments come on the back of reports that some schools in Ghana have liaised with some schools in Togo to have their pupils take part in the BECE in Ghana.

Mr. Nsowah denied knowledge of the Togolese pupils writing the BECE, and stated, however, that the GES will investigate the matter.

He cautioned that anybody who registers a pupil whose marks or performance has not been recorded from JHS 1 to JHS 3 cannot be a candidate because they do not qualify, and that it is illegal to do so.

He further warned that staff of the GES who assist in the registering Togolese pupils and other nationals will be fished out and dealt with accordingly.
