Assistant coach of the Black Stars George Boateng has withdrawn from his punditry role at beIN Sports, 3Sports can confirm.

This comes after the former Aston Villa U-23 coach was announced as part of beIN’s broadcast team to cover the World Cup.

With Ghana set to participate in the Mundial, the Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association reveal to 3Sports that Boateng won’t join the punditry team.

“It’s not possible, anywhere in the world there are long-term contracts. George Boateng has had a running contract with beIN Sports for years. But for this World Cup, there will be an exception.”

The 47-year-old coach signed a contract with beIN Sports in 2014 when he was manager of Malaysian side Kelantan FA. However, it is expected that he will now fully focus on the Black Stars.

Ghana will be making a fourth appearance at the World Cup and has been placed in Group H alongside Uruguay, Portugal, and South Korea.
