General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Johnson Asiedu Nketia has proceeded on a three-week leave, the party has stated.
His deputy, Koku Anyidoho, will act in his place while he is away.
Mr Asiedu Nketia, popularly known as General Mosquito, is said to have flown out of the country to Canada, where his family is.
The former Member of Parliament recently authored a book on his political career.
He is expected back at post at the end of the month.
