Fritz Baffuor returns from 'retirement' to help Bagbin win NDC flagbearership

Barely two years after retiring from active politics, former Member of Parliament for Ablekuma South, Fritz Baffour, has made a comeback to help second deputy Speaker Alban Bagbin win the presidential candidature of the National Democratic Congress for the 2020 elections. Mr. Baffour who served two terms in parliament explained he was quitting his political career to return to his former job; comedy. He has since exiting parliament in January last year been living a low-key life. But at a news conference in Accra Monday, Mr. Bagbin who is seeking to lead the NDC into the next elections announced Mr. Baffour as his Communications Director. Addressing journalists, he debunked rumours that he exited from politics because he was disappointed in former president John Mahama for not giving him any ministerial appointment. “It’s all the question of I have rescinded my decision not to be part and parcel of politics. I am a member of the NDC and I am doing the work of the NDC. “Some people have said that I was peeved, but I was not. It is not a question of turning my back on the previous president. In a democratic dispensation, you have the right to choose and I have chosen to work with Alban Bagbin,” Mr. Baffuor noted. He assured that he will work to ensure that Mr. Bagbin wins the flagbearership race to lead the NDC in the 2020 General Elections. “I will bring on board my experience as a media consultant and a communication specialist,” he said, adding “I believe in the values of the party, and I believe that Alban upholds all the values of the party. In his view, the NDC is “the party for the vulnerable; we are the party of the voiceless, and we are the party of the man on the street.” He also assured delegates of the party that his team will run a campaign devoid of insults. On his part, Alban Bagbin expressed joy to have Fritz Baffuor on his team. “I am happy together with team Bagbin, to have him join us, because we know him and we know what he is bringing on board. It is not many people that we have accepted to work with; he is one of the people who have joined the movement to create a free and just world,” Bagbin said. He described Mr. Baffuor as a matured, disciplined and focused politician who would work at ensuring the core values of the party are adhered to.
