Two former stars of the English Premier League are expected in Ghana to begin a two-day coaching and scouting programme.
Ex-EPL star Micky Adams, has played top-flight football for premiership sides including Southampton, Leeds United and Stoke City. He has also been player -manager at Fulham Football Club and Manager at Leicester City. He will be accompanied by Lawrie Dudfield, a former EPL football star who has also played with Leicester City and Hull City.
The two-day football clinic will be held on April 29 and April 30, 2019 in Accra. It is being organized by the Brooke House College Football Academy, England, and is being supported by the Commonwealth office in Accra and Everythings Education, an education consultancy company. The event is a continuation of the British Boarding School Expo, which took place in Accra at the end of February 2019.
Daily coaching sessions will concentrate on all aspects of player development from improving individual technique, positional play, the contribution each player makes to a team, as well as monitoring player fitness through individual training plans including a focus on diet and nutrition.
Addressing the media on the modalities for the two-day coaching and scouting programme, the Africa head of the Royal Commonwealth Society, John Apea said the event’s objective is to provide the opportunity for Ghanaian students who have fantastic talent in football to have the best of education in a top UK boarding school such as Brooke House College, while still pursuing a career in football.
“The football clinic is opened to students from ages 11-17 from all schools both private and public with the opportunity to receive the best of coaching tips from two of EPL’s football stars, now coaches,” he said.
“There is limited space for only 200 participants who will be invited after a registration process. The registration is to control the number of applicants, in order for the coaches to have enough time to assess each player,” he added.
Elaine Cunningham-Walker of Everythings Education said her dream is to see children attain their maximum potential through education.
“The football clinic is one way of ensuring that children live their dream and to become the best they wish for themselves. Everythings Education is glad to make this opportunity available to Ghanaian students,” she added.
