Flood: President’s ‘high powered’ delegation storms Northern Region

A high powered government delegation has been tasked by the president to assess the disaster situation in some parts of the Northern region following Tuesday night downpour.

At least two persons have been reported dead as a result of the flood that engulfed Tamale, Gushegu, Karaga, Yendi, Bimbilla and other parts of the region.

Government has subsequently expressed its condolences to the families of two people who lost their lives.

A statement issued by the Information Minister, Mustapha Hamid on Wednesday noted that the flood “caused extensive damage to property, rendered roads unmotorable and cut off many communities.”

It added that many people have been rendered homeless as a result.

“The President has constituted a high powered government delegation to visit the affected areas to assess the situation and report to him for remedial action to be taken.

“The delegation will also visit with the families of the dead and displaced persons,” the statement said.

Government, in the statement, assured the victims that everything would be done to “alleviate their suffering”.
