Member of Parliament for Yendi Farouk Aliu Mahama has cut sod for the construction of a ¢150,000 health facility at Sunsong.
Residents, especially pregnant women, will no longer walk several kilometers to access healthcare by the end of January next year.
The GH¢150,000 health facility for the community, when completed, is expected to address the basic health needs of the people.
Sunsong is a farming community located on the Yendi-Chereponi road.
It serves as a central point to Nashegu, Achiriya and other 11 adjoining communities.
Lack of healthcare, education and water facilities are some of the challenges facing the people.
Residents within this catchment area access their basic health needs in a dilapidated facility that poses danger to them.
In the build-up to the 2020 Presidential and Parliamentary elections the then New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary Candidate for Yendi Constituency, Farouk Aliu Mahama, promised the people a health facility if voted into office.
Ten months after assuming office as their MP, Farouk Mahama has cut sod for the construction of the facility.
Addressing the media at a short ceremony to cut sod for the commencement of the project, Mr. Farouk stated that the project, which is expected to begin in November, will be completed by the end of January 2022.
“The contractor will be on site next week to start work and Insha Allah by December and January next year he should be done with work.”
He indicated funds for the execution of the project have been secured, therefore the project will not suffer any bottlenecks during the period of execution.
“The funding has been secured and all processes completed. You just need to coperate with the contractor to do his work.”
The Yendi lawmaker underscored the importance of a health facility to the people.
For his part, Regent of Sunsong Mahama Saani Awal expressed gratitude to the Member of Parliament for the intervention and promised to be helpful in any way he can to see the completion of the project.
“When Farouk came here last year, we told him our concerns and though a year hasn’t come yet, he is tackling the biggest challenge we face here and I’m happy and grateful.”
Meanwhile, business magnate Daniel McKorley, who took part in the sod cutting ceremony, has pledged to furnish the facility.
“Farouk is my brother and whatever support I have for him to develop Yendi and make life easy for you, I will gladly give.”
